This card features a photograph I captured along Porto’s Douro River, where a lone fisherman practices his timeless craft under the majestic Dom Luís I Bridge. Rising above the river’s banks, the bridge’s sweeping iron arch and intricate latticework represent one of Portugal’s greatest engineering achievements. Designed in the 1880s by Théophile Seyrig, who partnered with Gustave Eiffel, this double-deck metal bridge spans about 385 meters across the water and soars nearly 45 meters high. The vast scale of the ironwork, set against the quiet scene of riverside life, celebrates Porto’s enduring spirit—where industrial ambition meets the rhythms of everyday tradition.
